Hotel Seminario Bilbao is 2 km from the end of stage 6 of the Northern Route: Gernika-Lezama
The best known route goes through the Txorierri and has been signposted by the Association of Friends of the Way of Saint James.
Larrabetzu: It coincides with the “Ruta Juradera” (Route of the Oath): Church of San Emeterio y Celedonio (important Spanish-Flemish altarpiece).
Lezama: Humilladero Santa Cruz, it used to have an adjoining hospital and has a mural with the Jacobean theme of Santo Domingo.
Zamudio: Church of San Martin, transitional Romanesque-Gothic church with Basque Gothic touches 15th C.
These alternative routes are not waymarked but offer alternative itineraries with beautiful landscapes and heritage sites.
Bakio-Mungia: From Bermeo, past the chapel of San Pelaio (Bakio), along San Miguel de Zumetzaga (Mungia) as far as Bilbao. We will find the best examples of Romanesque in Bizkaia.
Bakio-Arrieta-Fruiz-Txorierri: From the port of Bermeo, past San Pelaio, across Arrieta through Sollube and across Fruiz, where we will find the Romanesque church of San Salvador (pilgrim shell, tower and Renaissance altarpiece) where it connects with the traditional route of the Txorierri.
Plentzia-Gatika-Mungia: From Arco de Santiago (historic district of Plentzia), the way goes to the chapel of Magdalena, next to Butrón Castle (Gatika), reaches Mungia and connects with Bilbao.
